Week 2: Must Watch, Under the Radar and Best of the Rest

Must Watch

Notre Dame @ Michigan
Do I really need write anything?  Both teams need this win.  I think this would be a big step forward for Michigan and a win the B1G kind of needs.  If Notre Dame wants to get back in the national title picture again, it starts with a win at ‘The Big House.’

Nick’s pick- Notre Dame, 21-17
Jeremy’s pick- Notre Dame, 31-30

South Carolina @ Georgia
Georgia doesn’t get much time to lick their wounds with the Gamecocks coming to town.  South Carolina looked good last week against UNC and this week 2 matchup will go a long way toward determining the SEC East.

Jeremy’s pick- UGA, 35-31
Nick’s pick- UGA, 35-31

Florida @ Miami
Major battle in the state of Florida.  Miami needs a win against a team like Florida if they want to be considered as a team on the up-swing.  With the game in South Florida, there could be some major recruiting ramifications.  I can’t wait to see how a high-powered Miami offense matchups up against a physical, athletic Florida defense.

Nick’s pick- Florida, 28-24
Jeremy’s pick- Florida, 27-24

Texas @ BYU
This will be a much bigger test for the Longhorns than NMSU.  On the road against a solid BYU defense we’ll see if this Texas offense really has improved.

Jeremy’s pick- 31-14
Nick’s pick- Texas 31-17

Under the Radar

Washington State @ USC
Wazzou looked pretty good on the road last week against Auburn and actually found a running game.  Who knows how USC will show up in this game.  The Trojans should win but don’t surprised if it’s closer than it should be.

Jeremy’s pick- USC, 34-27
Nick’s pick- USC, 35-28

Wake Forrest @ Boston College
This is an interesting early season Atlantic matchup and I’m looking forward to Steve Addazio in his first ACC matchup.  Going with the home team here.

Nick’s pick- Boston College, 35-17
Jeremy’s pick- Boston College, 24-23

Tennessee vs. Western Kentucky
The Hilltoppers beat Kentucky last week.  Can they win back-to-back SEC games?  I don’t think Western Kentucky is really that far behind Kentucky or Tennessee athletically right now.  This is going to be a close game at Rocky Top but I think the Vols squeak it out.

Nick’s pick- Tennessee, 38-31
Jeremy’s pick- Tennessee, 31-30

Bowling Green @ Kent State
I underestimated Bowling Green last week against Tulsa.  Not this week.  The defense is solid and the offense looked good last week.

Jeremy’s pick- Bowling Green, 31-21
Nick’s pick- Bowling Green, 38-24

Oregon @ Virginia
West coast to East coast can be a challenge.  I think the travel will be the biggest challenge for the Ducks.  They may get off to a slow start but don’t expect this game to be close.

Jeremy’s pick- Oregon, 52-20
Nick’s pick- Oregon, 63-17

Stanford vs. San Jose State
Game 1 for the Cardinal.  Do you need another reason to watch?

Jeremy’s pick- Stanford, 34-10
Nick’s pick- Stanford 31-17

Wyoming vs. Idaho
After putting up over 600 yards at Nebraska, how will the Pokes do, at home, against a lesser opponent?

Nick’s pick- Wyoming, 42-28
Jeremy’s pick- Wyoming, 42-27

Utah State @ Air Force
Divisional matchup within the Mountain West.  Utah State is coming off a tough loss to Utah.  How will USU rebound against the Air Force option attack?

Jeremy’s pick- Air Force, 31-30
Nick’s pick- Air Force 31-30

Syracuse @ Northwestern
The Orange played Penn State pretty tough and N’Western is coming off a road trip out west and a tough game against Cal.

Jeremy’s pick- Northwestern, 31-21
Nick’s pick- Northwestern 38-21

FCS vs. FBS
The FCS won seven games against FBS opponents last week.  How will they fair in week 2?  Who will fall victim this week?  Iowa?  Kansas?  SMU?
Our picks- Kansas is going down and Iowa is in trouble.
