Week 11- The Playoff Picture, Players of the Week and Picks… Oh, the picks!

Thank you playoff.  Thank you!

For all those people who worried that the playoff would water down the regular season, I give you week 11.  Under the former BCS, this would have just been a good week of football with only a game or two that really mattered.  Instead, we’ve got an Ohio State team that resurrected its playoff hopes with a huge win on the road at Michigan State.  Two one-loss teams from the Big 12 (TCU and Baylor) blew out ranked opponents and in doing so made the playoff picture much more interesting.  Texas A&M of all teams might have dealt the SEC its biggest blow of the season with their win over Auburn and the conference’s shot at getting two teams in might have gone out the window.

After the dust settles on week 11, we’ll gear up to do it all over again next weekend as we’ll have at least five games that will have a direct impact on the playoff picture.  Buckle your seatbelt!

Players of the Week

J.T. Barrett, QB, Ohio State
Barrett was on our ‘Watch List’ and the Buckeyes quarterback didn’t disappoint.  Barrett was huge in leading the Buckeyes to a decisive win on the road in East Lancing.  His stat line for the game was equally impressive going 16/26 for 300 yards and three passing touchdowns.  Oh, and he ran for 86 and two scores as well.

Trevone Boykin, QB, TCU
Boykin might have been a fringe Heisman candidate up to this point in the season but his performance against Kansas State should thrust him right into the heat of the race.  The TCU quarterback did it all on Saturday, completing 23 of 34 for 219 and a touchdown and ran for 123 yards and three scores in the 41-20 romp of the Wildcats.  For the season, Boykin has 3,237 total yards and 30 touchdowns.  Not bad for player that was supposed to be playing receiver this year.

ASU’s Defense
*You could give equal credit here to Everett Golson who was a big help to the Sun Devils.  Todd Graham has done a heck of a job with a defense that lost nine starters from last year’s team.  ASU forced five turnovers in the game- four INT’s (two pick-six’) and a fumble and harassed Everett Golson and the Notre Dame offense from start to finish.  Notre Dame was 5-13 on third downs and the second pick-six stifled any chances the Irish had of a comeback.
