Week 5 Recap

Week 5 Recap

#1 Alabama 25, #21 Ole Miss 0
Turns out ‘Bama’s not in as much trouble as we thought. Ole Miss was averaging 39 points a game heading into this meeting. It was only a matter of time before Nick Saban got this defense clicking. The Tide are legit and until they lose, they’re the king in my eyes.
Nick’s pick- Alabama, 37-20
Jeremy’s pick- Alabama, 34-24

#2 Oregon 55, Cal 16
Over by the 3rd? I was a little off as this one was over by the middle of the second quarter. I’m ready to see the Ducks play an opponent with a pulse.
Nick’s pick- Oregon, 70-35
Jeremy’s pick- Oregon, 56-24

#3 Clemson 56, Wake Forest 7
Clemson keeps truckin’. Florida State’s October, 19 visit looms large.
Nick’s pick- Clemson, 49-31
Jeremy’s pick- Clemson, 45-14

#4 Ohio State 31, #23 Wisconsin 24
Swing and a miss! Did we overrate Wisconsin or underrate Ohio State? Maybe a little bit of both.
Nick’s pick- Wisconsin, 31-28
Jeremy’s pick- Wisconsin, 34-33

#5 Stanford 55, Washington State 17
I said Wazzou might keep it close early and I was right. For the first quarter, I was right. Things will get interesting for Stanford next week with the 4-0 Huskies coming to town.
Nick’s pick- Stanford, 38-17
Jeremy’s pick- Stanford, 37-13

#6 LSU 41, #9 Georgia 44
Three “Game’s of the Year” for Georgia in four games. The Bulldogs have not just survived the early part of their schedule, they are still alive in the SEC and BCS Championship race and look like one of the top teams in the nation.
Nick’s pick- Georgia, 42-40
Jeremy’s pick- LSU, 34-33 (Picked Georgia in the Pick 6… oh well)

#7 Louisville
IDLE

#8 Florida State 48, Boston College 34
BC gave FSU all they could handle, but the Seminoles high-powered offense was too much as they finished with 489 total yards. The Seminoles must work on starting games with more urgency. A slow start against Clemson in a few weeks will be a lot worse than the 17-3 hole they found themselves in against BC.
Nick’s pick- Florida State, 35-24
Jeremy’s pick- Florida State, 41-17

#10 Texas A&M 45, Arkansas 33
This ended up being a tough game for the Aggies as Arkansas kept it close throughout. The A&M offense was on top of its game but it was the defense that showed signs of life, holding the Razorbacks to two three-and-outs and an INT keeping the Hogs offense at bay.
Nick’s pick- Texas A&M, 52-28
Jeremy’s pick- Texas A&M, 44-35

#11 Oklahoma State 21, West Virginia 30
Sobering game for the Cowboys. The Mountaineers were outgained 433-388 but the defense forced three turnovers including a pick-six.
Nick’s pick- Oklahoma State, 49-35
Jeremy’s pick- Ok State, 45-17

#12 South Carolina 28, UCF 25
We said UCF would make it interesting. Connor Shaw went down in the first quarter, so the Gamecocks turned to running back Mike Davis (26 carries, 167 yards and 3 TD’s) who carried SC to a victory.
Nick’s pick- South Carolina, 31-21
Jeremy’s pick- South Carolina, 34-31

#13 UCLA
IDLE

#14 Oklahoma 35, #22 Notre Dame 21
Big defensive day for the Sooners as they picked off Tommy Rees three times, twice in the first 3 minutes of the game. The win ends a seven-game losing streak to the Irish and puts the nation on notice. Oklahoma is for real.
Nick’s pick- Oklahoma 31-24
Jeremy’s pick- Notre Dame, 27-24

#15 Miami 49, South Florida 21
This game went as expected. USF is terrible.
Nick’s pick- Miami, 48-17
Jeremy’s pick- Miami, 42-14

#16 Washington 31, Arizona 13
Nick and I both underestimated Washington’s defense. On a rainy day in Seattle, the Huskies held Arizona’s high-powered offense to 318 yards. Offensively, the Huskies leaned on running back Bishop Sankey and he delivered, going for 161 on a UW record 40 carries.
Nick’s pick- Washington, 42-24
Jeremy’s pick- Washington, 41-27

#17 Northwestern
IDLA

#18 Michigan
IDLE

#19 Baylor
IDLE

#20 Florida 24, Kentucky 7
Despite the losses of Jeff Driskel and Dominique Easley, the Gators won the way the Gators win, by running the football and playing great defense. Florida held an inept Kentucky offense to 12 first downs and only 173 yards of total offense.
Nick’s pick- Florida, 27-10
Jeremy’s pick, Florida, 24-21

#24 Texas Tech
IDLE

#25 Fresno State 42, Hawai’i 37
We said Fresno would sleep walk through the Warriors and they did. And it almost cost them the game. With a 42-3 lead with just over 6’ in the third, Hawai’i scored 34 unanswered points and just ran out of time. Fresno held on for the win but might have raised some questions.
Nick’s pick- Fresno State, 52-24
Jeremy’s pick- Fresno, 54-17
